Spring Break

So this week was Spring Break for all of Abilene, which means the Youth Center was open all day and I got lots of hours! This week was a lot of fun because we had themes each day, so I got to dress up a lot! The kids got to go to the zoo and the movies, we watched lots of movies, played the Wii, etc. It was a fun week, but I am glad things are going back to normal tomorrow. Normal meaning I get to take naps. ;)

This week was also special because it was my BIRTHDAY! I had a wonderful 1st birthday as a Christy! Sean said it sounded creepy for me to put it like that, he said let him know when it's my 18th birthday as a Christy. Sean and I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner and Coldstone for dessert. My coworkers brought me gifts, a balloon, one little girl brought me an owl cup!, and lots of little hand-made cards. My favorite gift was the amazing bouquet of flowers Sean brought to me at work! It was a great day.

Thursday I didn't go to work because I was having my final thyroid tests run at the hospital. I had to be there at 7:15am to take a pill, then go back at 2:15 to have my thyroid scanned and the uptake level assessed. We will see this Wednesday at my doctors appointment what all the tests show.

Friday was a special day for us and Sean's friends because we welcomed home a friend who has been deployed for 6 months. It's crazy to think about all that changes in 6 months and what it must feel like to come home after being gone that long. We went to Seafood Tavern and then Bar 14. We are so glad to have him home!

Saturday Sean and I ran errands for most of the day. We also looked at bedroom furniture! I want a bedroom set SO bad, but with all the cuts they are making in the government we decided we should wait a little while before we make a big purchase. The tuition assistance cuts are definitely hitting close to home since Sean just started his online MBA program at Oklahoma State University. Out-of-state tuition at a major university wasn't exactly in our monthly budget! We went and saw The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and got frozen yogurt before heading home.

Well I just gave Sean a haircut so I'm off to change into my PJs and get to sleep.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Christy

P.S. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here is our green meal I made for dinner! Looks gross but tasted great!

A Week in Pictures

I thought I would use pictures this week instead of rambling on in paragraph form...

This week I started Zumba and Body Pump. I love the instructors and classes so far. I was definitely sore all week but I just kept going! I can't wait to see the changes!

FRIDAY

Friday night was the 317th maintenance awards banquet. Sean was put in charge of planning the whole thing so it was definitely a stressful night for him. I think it went really well and we had a lot of fun! Proud of all the "knucklebusters" that earned awards that evening!

SATURDAY

Saturday we woke up and went to Sweetwater, TX for the Rattlesnake Roundup. It's one of those things everyone says "you have to do once." It was raining on the way and a little bit when we got there, but it turned out to be a pretty day!

I "held" a rattlesnake! Thankfully it had just been "milked". They use the venom for research. This made me feel like a true Texan. ...now I just need to learn to shoot a gun and I will fit right in!

They skin the dead rattlesnakes to eat the meat, and make things out of the skins. People dip their hands in the rattlesnake blood and make a print on the wall. It is safe to say that Sean and I were a little culture shocked!

Saturday night I went a played bunco with my co-workers and some other wonderful ladies! Bunco is a dice game that is really big in Texas. I'd never heard of it before moving here but it is a lot of fun! The night was St. Patrick's Day themed so we all wore green. Can't wait to maybe host one at my house!

SUNDAY

Sunday at the Christy household means laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, and cuddling on the couch with our pups! I love this picture of Braxton that Sean snapped while he was on his lap! He is going to get groomed Thursday, this little guy needs a bath and cut ASAP!

Until next week,
Mrs. Christy

Pretend it's Saturday

So I guess I am already off to a bad start with "remembering to do this every weekend" thing...being that it is Wednesday. I will write about the past week and try to stay on track for this weekend! We have a busy and fun weekend planned for this weekend and can't wait to write about it!

I guess I will start off with a little update about my thyroid since that's what's been weighing on my mind lately. I had an appointment last week and the Dr said he didn't think I had the over-active thyroid...but would do some blood work anyway. So I had blood work done that day before leaving his office. He said they would only call if it was something bad and he would see me again at their next available appointment. The next available appointment was April 29th. So I left without answers and knowing I wouldn't get any until April 29th. ...I got a call the following day. They said my blood work had come back over active and that I would need to have an ultrasound and radioactive iodine uptake and scan as soon as possible. I had the ultrasound done on Friday and scheduled the uptake and scan at the hospital for next Thursday. Then Monday I get another call. The receptionist said that the Dr had brought her my charts and wanted my appointment bumped up to this week, he had seen something on my ultrasound or blood work? Again, no real answers. I will be going to the Dr in 2 weeks after I had the tests run next week, just so he can see all the results from all the tests. I just want answers and I am starting to get frustrated and worried!

To top it all off I did something to my back last week. I woke up Thursday with it feeling a little tight and by Friday I was in a lot of pain. I spent the weekend with IcyHot patches, Alieve, and taking long hot baths. I am feeling much better now though! I think I must have lifted a toddler or something at the CDC and pulled a muscle.

I finally saw Safe Haven this weekend after finishing the book. It was NOTHING like the book, but the movie was really good! I loved "Katie"'s hair so much that I decided to get my hair cut off. It didn't turn out looking like hers, or exactly what I wanted, but I like it a lot! Just have to get used to using my round brush again!

I joined a gym yesterday, I am really excited about getting in shape for our family vacation to Corpus Christi this summer.

I have to get to a meeting a work, I promise I will post pictures and not ramble so much in my next posts. Just trying to keep everyone updated!

Until next time,
Breanna

Happy Sunday

So, I have decided to try this whole blogging thing again! I wrote a few posts after Sean and I got married, and I have decided to try again. Hopefully I can stick to it! It's such a great way for friends and family to keep up with our day-to-day happenings out here in Abilene, TX! My goal is to write a post every weekend. We shall see! I hope ya'll like the new template and layout!

If you follow me on Facebook at all, you know that I have been having some "health issues". I went to the doctor a few weeks ago with chest pains, turned out to be pleurisy, and while there we discussed some other symptoms and problems I had been having. The doctor had me get blood work done to see if I have celiac disease. Those results came back negative. After another appointment I was told I had a wheat/gluten allergy, and can no longer eat bread, pasta, cake, cookies, etc. I have been wheat/gluten free for about a month and I can already notice changes! It's tough, but I have to do what is necessary to stay healthy. My doctor at the second appointment also said she wanted my thyroid checked. The results came back that I have an over-active thyroid. She wanted me to have the blood work done again just to make sure, and the results came back the same. I have an appointment this Wednesday with an endocrinologist, so hopefully we will get some answers.

This week I am also starting a diet/working out. I want to post about different work outs I am trying and recipes I find...gluten/wheat free of course! The craziest part about the whole thyroid thing is that most people with an over-active thyroid lose weight rapidly, and I've gained almost 15 lbs since May. My goal is to be back to my "wedding weight" by May. They say that weight gain after marriage is a sign of happiness!

That's it for my first post, Sean and I are off to church! Happy Sunday!
